Three High Court Chief Justices Appointed to Supreme Court

The Centre has approved the appointment of three serving High Court Chief Justices as judges of the Supreme Court, following recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium.
The Ministry of Law and Justice issued the notification on Monday, formalising the elevation of the three judges. The Collegium had recommended their names on September 28, 2026.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on X, stating that the President had exercised constitutional powers to appoint the three Chief Justices to the apex court.
The newly appointed Supreme Court judges are:


Justice Sunita Agarwal – Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court; her parent High Court is the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya – Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court; his parent High Court is the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh – Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court; his parent High Court is the Jharkhand High Court.
The appointments will further strengthen the Supreme Court bench with judges who have held key judicial positions across different High Courts.
