Surat Influencer Arrested Over Objectionable Reel Featuring Gandhi on ₹500 Note

Surat: A 47-year-old social media influencer with nearly one million followers was reportedly arrested by the Surat Cyber Crime Branch for allegedly posting an objectionable Instagram reel featuring Mahatma Gandhi’s image on a ₹500 currency note.

The accused, identified as Simran Patel, a homemaker from Surat’s Adajan area, was booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act for allegedly transmitting obscene material electronically.

Police said Patel uploaded the reel on October 1, a day before Gandhi Jayanti. The video allegedly contained vulgar gestures, sexual references and insulting remarks involving Gandhi’s image on the currency note.

The complaint was filed by Dharmesh Gami, head of Gau Raksha Manch, following which cyber police registered a case.

Police have urged people not to create or circulate obscene, objectionable or insulting content involving national figures or religious and social symbols, warning that such acts can invite legal action.
