India Finishes Asian Games with 85 Medals

India wrapped up its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with an impressive haul of 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — securing fourth place in the overall medal table.
India’s campaign was highlighted by a remarkable golden sweep in cricket, hockey and kabaddi, with both the men’s and women’s teams winning gold.
In cricket, India successfully defended both titles. The women’s side thrashed Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final, while the men defeated Pakistan by 19 runs to complete a double triumph.
Kabaddi delivered another clean sweep. The Indian women retained their crown after edging past Iran 37-34, while the men staged a comeback to beat Iran 40-34 in the final.

Indian hockey teams also created history. The women ended a 44-year wait for an Asian Games medal, beating China 1-0 through Lalremsiami’s 10th-minute strike. The victory gave India its first women’s hockey gold at the Games since 1982.
The men’s team retained its title with a convincing 5-1 win over Malaysia, securing India’s fifth Asian Games men’s hockey gold after previous triumphs in 1966, 1998, 2014 and 2022. It was also the first Asian Games where both Indian hockey teams won gold in the same edition, earning Olympic qualification for Los Angeles 2028.
Archery emerged as another major contributor, with India winning nine medals, including five gold. Boxing produced three gold and three bronze medals, making it India’s best-ever Asian Games boxing campaign in terms of gold medals.
Indian wrestlers also made their mark with six medals — two gold, two silver and two bronze, their strongest Asian Games performance since the 1962 Jakarta edition.
