Deep Depression Hits Coast: Heavy Rain Batters Southern Odisha, Red Alert Issued

A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam, between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur, at around 11:30 pm on Wednesday. The landfall process continued for nearly three hours, with the system crossing the coast about 30 km southwest of Kalingapatnam.
The weather system was moving at nearly 7 kmph, while wind speeds of around 55–65 kmph were recorded during the landfall. Despite moving inland, the system is expected to continue affecting parts of southern Odisha for several hours.

System to Move Northwest
The deep depression is likely to move northwestwards for the next few hours while retaining its intensity. It is then expected to turn north-northwestwards and gradually weaken.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds has been reported across several coastal and adjoining areas. Rough sea conditions have also been observed, while persistent rain has caused waterlogging in several low-lying locations.

Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea until weather conditions improve. People living in vulnerable areas have also been urged to remain cautious and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation as rain and strong winds continue to affect parts of the southern and coastal Odisha region.
