Centre May Hold Navratri Session on Women’s Quota

The Centre is considering a special Parliament session during Navaratri to discuss legislation related to women’s reservation and delimitation, according to sources.
The proposed sitting could be held between October 11 and 15, although no final decision has been taken on the dates or the legislative process. The government has reportedly also held discussions with Opposition parties.
The move could advance the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, passed in 2023, which provides for around one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies. The law’s implementation is linked to a census and subsequent delimitation exercise.

The possibility of holding the session during Navaratri has also sparked political discussion, with some NDA leaders viewing it as a potential message of commitment to women’s political representation.
In April 2026, the government introduced proposals aimed at speeding up the census and delimitation process connected with the women’s reservation law.
