BJD Seeks CM Mohan Majhi’s Resignation Over Alleged Kapilash Devotee Harassment

The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called for the resignation of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi over the alleged harassment of four devotees near the Kapilash temple in Dhenkanal.Speaking at a press conference, Biju Mahila Janata Dal president Snehangini Chhuria urged the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, to accept moral responsibility for the incident and step down.

Chhuria alleged that crimes against women had increased since the BJP government assumed power in Odisha. She claimed that several tourist destinations across the state had become unsafe for women and visitors. Referring to incidents reported from Gopalpur, Bali Harachandi, Dhauli and Rayagada, the BJD leader said the alleged Kapilash incident was another cause for concern and had brought disrepute to the state. She also accused the government of failing to take adequate steps to prevent such incidents.

BJD MLA Manorama Mohanty also demanded the resignation of the government, alleging that it had failed to ensure the safety of women. Meanwhile, former Odisha State Women’s Commission chairperson Minati Behera cited National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data while raising concerns over the state’s record on crimes against women.
