Odisha Congress Plans Bandh Over MMDR Act

The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has announced a statewide bandh and a seven-day economic blockade after Dussehra against the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026.
The party said the dates and detailed programme would be announced later. The decision was taken at a Congress executive committee meeting, where seven resolutions were adopted and leaders called for united action under the slogan, “Not me, but us.”

Congress has sought clarity over the amended mining law, better management of Odisha’s mineral resources and the resignation of Minister Nityananda Ganda in connection with the mining issue.
PCC chief Bhakta Charan Das alleged that both the present government and the previous BJD government were responsible for the alleged exploitation of the state’s mineral resources. He said Congress would continue to hold both parties accountable.
The Odisha BJP has yet to respond to the announcement.
