IMD Issues Cold Wave Alert for Odisha, Dense Fog Likely in Several Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for several districts of Odisha over the next few days, forecasting a sharp dip in night temperatures along with the possibility of dense fog in some regions.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, a yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh and Kandhamal, where dense fog is likely at one or two places between the mornings of December 9 and 10. During the same period, cold wave conditions may prevail in isolated pockets of Sundargarh, Angul, and Jharsuguda.

From December 10 to 12, the cold wave is expected to intensify, with alerts issued for isolated pockets of Sundargarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Sonepur, and Cuttack.

Sharp Temperature Drop in Cities

Urban centres are also likely to experience a significant fall in minimum temperatures. Bhubaneswar may record around 11°C on December 11 and 12, while Cuttack may see the mercury dropping to 10°C, the IMD said.

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions as cold conditions strengthen across the state.
