Tiger Scare Grips Odisha’s Ganjam District

Ganjam: Residents of the Sanakhemundi block in Odisha’s Ganjam district are experiencing growing fear after recent reports of tiger sightings. Villagers in the area, including Narsinghgarh, Gangapur, Harijansahi, and Dhepaguda, have been on high alert, guarding their homes through the night.

The concern heightened after the Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) in Berhampur confirmed that tiger pawprints were found near Narsinghgarh village. It’s speculated that the tiger, potentially a Royal Bengal tiger, may have migrated from the Ghumusar Forest Division to the Berhampur Forest Division.

In response to the threat, local residents are reportedly staying awake through the night, holding sticks and burning tires to deter the animal. Many villagers have expressed panic and are spending sleepless nights fearing an attack.

To address these concerns, the forest department has taken measures to monitor the tiger’s movements. Two trap cameras have been installed in the vicinity to track its activities. Additionally, independent monitoring teams have been formed to coordinate with the forest department and keep villagers informed.

Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to reduce the risk of encounters.
