Red Alert for several districts of Odisha as fresh low-pressure area forms

Bhubaneswar: Continuous rain continued across several parts of Odisha throughout the night following a new low-pressure area that has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining west Bengal-Odisha coast.

Further intensification of the system over the next 48 hours is probable, which would likely cause a widespread rainfall across state for the next four days, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, is receiving continuous rain since Saturday night.

A red warning has been issued by the IMD for next two days which will bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across multiple districts.

Seven districts including Kendujhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Kataka, have been placed under the red alert since some isolated areas might receive extremely heavy rainfall while 10 districts are on orange alert and nine on yellow alert following a spell of monsoon activity over Odisha.

The sea is likely to remain rough, under the influence of the low-pressure area, stated by the weather department.

Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea until July 27. Rainfall activity over the state is expected to continue until July 29 owing to this system.
