Ronaldo Reveals Fallout With Jorge Jesus Over Broken Promises

Portugal football star Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his abrupt departure from the national team camp last month, claiming head coach Jorge Jesus failed to honour an eight-point agreement concerning his playing time and public defence.

The controversy reportedly began during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League campaign. According to Ronaldo, he and Jesus had initially agreed that he would not play against Norway or Denmark as part of a workload-management plan.

However, before the Norway match in Oslo, Jesus reportedly asked Ronaldo to consider making a 30-minute substitute appearance. Ronaldo agreed and warmed up throughout the second half but was ultimately left unused, which he viewed as the first breach of trust.

A subsequent meeting involving Ronaldo, Jesus and Al Nassr sporting director Simão Coutinho resulted in an eight-point statement that Jesus was expected to read publicly ahead of the Denmark game in Copenhagen.

One of the key points reportedly acknowledged Jesus’ mistake in leaving Ronaldo on the bench. The statement also described Ronaldo as “exemplary, loyal and professional” and reaffirmed the coach’s desire to retain him in the national setup.

However, when Jesus did not read the agreed statement at the press conference, Ronaldo decided to leave the camp, citing a further breach of trust.

Despite the fallout, Ronaldo later apologised to his teammates and fans for his decision to leave. He also said he was prepared to accept any suspension imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation and stressed that he remains committed to representing Portugal in the future.
