Puri Greenfield Airport Moves Closer to Construction After Environmental Clearance

Puri: The proposed Sri Jagannath International Airport in Puri has moved a step closer to construction with the project receiving environmental clearance and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

Puri Collector Dibyajyoti Parida said on Tuesday that forest-related issues linked to the project have been resolved. The administration is now coordinating with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Commerce and Transport Department to complete the remaining formalities before construction begins.

Key Clearances Secured

The greenfield airport is proposed at Sipasarubali mouza along the Puri-Brahmagiri road and will come up over approximately 1,464.621 acres.

The project had earlier received Stage-I approval, while the latest environmental and CRZ clearances have removed a major hurdle. According to the district administration, issues concerning forest land and other pending matters have also been addressed.

The airport is expected to significantly improve air connectivity to Puri, making travel easier for tourists and pilgrims visiting the city from across India and abroad.
