Shreyas Iyer Surpasses Rahul, Rohit to Set New T20 Record Against West Indies

Shreyas Iyer smashed a 42-ball century against the West Indies, becoming the fastest Indian batter to score a T20 century against them.
India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I, powered by captain Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 102 off 43 balls. Iyer’s explosive knock included 10 fours and six sixes, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Iyer reached his century in just 42 balls, surpassing KL Rahul’s previous Indian record of 46 balls. Rahul had scored his century off 46 balls against the West Indies at Lauderhill in 2016. Rohit Sharma is third on the list, having taken 58 balls to reach his century against the Caribbean side.

Iyer also became the first Indian captain to score a T20 century while chasing. Before him, the highest score by an Indian captain batting in the second innings of a T20 was Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 94 against the West Indies in Hyderabad in 2019.
With his century, Iyer also became only the third Indian batter to score a T20 century against the West Indies, after Rohit Sharma (111) and KL Rahul (110).
