Odisha Conducts SIR Training for BLOs Ahead of Electoral Roll Revision

Bhubaneswar: A Special Intensive Revision (SIR) training programme for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors was conducted across various assembly constituencies in Odisha on Monday in preparation for the upcoming electoral roll revision exercise scheduled to commence from May 30.
The training programme was organised to ensure a more accurate, comprehensive and error-free voter list during the Special Intensive Revision process across the state.

During the sessions, officials focused on enhancing field-level preparedness and ensuring strict adherence to election guidelines and government instructions. BLOs and supervisors were given detailed briefings on the procedures and operational methods required for the effective implementation of the SIR exercise at the grassroots level.
The participants were also sensitised on maintaining transparency and accuracy while conducting data collection and voter verification to minimise discrepancies in the electoral rolls. Officials emphasised the need for a systematic and efficient revision process to ensure smooth electoral operations.
Meanwhile, in view of the prevailing severe heatwave conditions in Odisha, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has issued special safety guidelines for officials engaged in fieldwork during the SIR exercise.
According to the directive, field activities will be conducted only during safer hours from 6 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm, while outdoor work has been prohibited between 12 pm and 3 pm due to extreme heat conditions.
The guidelines also mandate that all field officers carry essential items such as drinking water bottles, ORS or electrolyte packets, hats or umbrellas, and functional mobile phones for emergency communication while on duty.
The Chief Electoral Officer has issued Letter No. 3333/Elect to all District Magistrates, District Election Officers, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, and Electoral Registration Officers across Odisha, directing strict compliance with the prescribed heatwave safety measures during the SIR operations.
