FASTag Portability Launched: Change Banks Without Buying a New Tag

FASTag users can now switch the bank linked to their existing tag without purchasing a new sticker. The new OneTag facility allows vehicle owners to port their FASTag from one bank to another while keeping the same tag installed on the vehicle’s windshield.
The facility, launched by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on September 11, is designed to work much like mobile number portability. Earlier, customers had to close their existing FASTag and obtain a new one if they wanted to change the issuing bank.
Under OneTag, users can open the Rajmarg Yatra app, select the OneTag option, enter their existing FASTag details and choose the new bank they want to link with the tag. After completing the required verification, the same FASTag can be used with the new bank.
However, users will need to check whether their preferred bank is part of the OneTag portability system. Several major banks, including SBI, ICICI Bank and Airtel Payments Bank, are among those linked to the system, with more banks expected to join in the future. The facility is aimed at making FASTag management easier and eliminating the hassle of removing and replacing stickers.
