Koraput Coffee Gets BRICS Spotlight

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s popular Koraput coffee has received an international platform after being included in the delegate kits at the 18th BRICS Summit being held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
Branded as Tiger Bright, the premium single-origin Arabica coffee is cultivated by tribal farmers in the hills of Koraput at an altitude of around 920 metres. The coffee is washed-processed and lightly roasted, giving it a distinctive flavour and aroma.

More than 1,500 packets of Tiger Bright were sent to New Delhi by the Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Limited (TDCCOL) following a request from the Ministry of External Affairs.
The coffee is produced in several parts of Koraput district, including Laxmipur, Kashipur, Dasmantpur, Nandapur, Lamtaput, Koraput and Pottangi.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi welcomed the recognition, saying the presence of Koraput coffee at the BRICS Summit reflects the spirit of “Vocal for Local” and gives Odisha’s indigenous products an opportunity to reach a global audience.
Koraput Collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan said the coffee represents the region’s rich soil, unique agro-climatic conditions and the hard work of its tribal growers.

Coffee farmers in the district are hopeful that the BRICS exposure will expand the brand’s market both within India and internationally, while also bringing greater recognition and benefits to the tribal communities involved in its production.
