2.88 Lakh Seniors Receive Care Support; 142 New Homes Approved

More than 2.88 lakh senior citizens across the country have benefited from essential services such as shelter, nutritious meals, healthcare, physiotherapy and recreational facilities, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said.

Ministry Secretary Sudhansh Pant said 142 new Senior Citizen Homes have also been sanctioned in different parts of the country to expand welfare and care facilities for the elderly.To promote independent living, more than 200 camps were organised, benefiting over 4.90 lakh people. Around 23.93 lakh assistive devices, including wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and spectacles, have been distributed free of cost to eligible senior citizens from Below Poverty Line families.

The initiatives are aimed at improving access to care and welfare services while helping elderly people live with greater dignity, independence and support.
