Two Dead, Around 30 Fall Ill in Diarrhoea Outbreak in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Sundargarh: At least two persons died and nearly 30 others fell ill following a diarrhoea outbreak in Nuadihi village under Hemgir block of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

According to reports, 13 affected persons are currently undergoing treatment at Hemgir Hospital, while four critically ill patients have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for advanced medical care.

Public Health Officer Dr Suresh Chandra Mohanty said a medical team from Hemgir Hospital has been deployed in the village to monitor the situation and provide immediate treatment to the affected residents.

He further informed that another team from the district health department will visit the village to conduct a detailed assessment and implement preventive measures.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the outbreak may have been triggered after villagers consumed food served during a community feast organised in the village. Health officials suspect contaminated food or water linked to the feast caused the spread of diarrhoea and vomiting among residents.

As a precautionary step, all water sources in the village have been disinfected. Authorities have also restricted movement into and out of the village to contain the spread of the disease. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and strictly follow health guidelines issued by the administration.
