Orange Alert for Heavy Rain in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh today.

Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places in Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Coastal Karnataka. Rainfall activity is likely to continue in several other states, including Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand and parts of the Northeast.

A fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions has intensified rainfall activity in Odisha. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Kalahandi. Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi recorded 345 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, the highest in the state.
Rising water levels in rivers such as the Bansadhara and Salandi have increased concerns, particularly in flood-affected areas. Around 14 lakh people across seven districts were affected by recent floods, while relief and restoration work continues.

The weather system is expected to keep Odisha wet over the next few days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions along the coast.
