Sports Ministry Gives Green Signal to India’s Asian Games Contingent

The Sports Ministry has approved a 492-member Indian contingent for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, scheduled to begin next month. The squad comprises 265 male and 227 female athletes.
Athletics has the largest representation with 73 athletes, including Olympic medallist and star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, long-distance runner Gulveer Singh, decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, and hurdler Jyothi Yarraji.

India’s 20-member badminton team features leading players such as PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty. The squad also includes women’s doubles pair Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, along with men’s doubles stars Satwik Sai Raj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

The 11-member boxing squad includes Commonwealth Games silver medallists Lovlina Borgohain, Narender Berwal and Jadumani Singh, who will compete in their respective weight categories.
