Cargo Vessel Sinks Off Paradip Coast, Rescue Operation Underway

Paradip: A major maritime incident has been reported off the Odisha coast after a Panama-flagged cargo vessel reportedly sank in the mid-sea while sailing from Paradip towards Singapore.

The vessel, identified as M/V Ocean Winner, was carrying iron ore and had 24 crew members on board, with most of them reportedly Chinese nationals. The bulk carrier had arrived at Paradip Port on August 20 and subsequently departed for Singapore.

According to preliminary information, the vessel sank nearly 200 nautical miles from Paradip after leaving the port.

Following the incident, the Odisha Coast Guard has initiated a rescue operation to locate the crew members and evacuate them to safety. Search and rescue efforts are currently underway in the affected maritime zone.

The exact circumstances leading to the vessel’s sinking are yet to be ascertained.
