Low-Pressure Area Forms Over Bay of Bengal, IMD Issues Fishermen Advisory

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions.

The system developed at around 5:30 am on August 23 under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal, off the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts.

The weather system is expected to bring squally conditions, with winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph, over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. Similar conditions are likely along and off the coasts of West Bengal, adjoining Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh until August 24.

The sea is also expected to remain rough to very rough in these areas during the period.

In view of the adverse weather, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal or along and off the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh until August 24.
