Odisha Govt Approves Recruitment for 7,664 Police Posts, OUSSSC to Conduct Exams

Kendrapara: A woman and her son have alleged that they were subjected to custodial torture at Talchua Marine Police Station in Odisha’s Kendrapara district after visiting the station to lodge a complaint over a family dispute.
According to a complaint submitted to Pattamundai SDPO, Annapurna Mandal (58), wife of Paban Kumar Mandal of Giriapahi village under Baghamari panchayat, along with her son Ananta Kumar Mandal, had gone to the police station on May 25 seeking police assistance.

However, instead of registering their complaint, police personnel allegedly abused and assaulted them inside the station premises.
In her complaint, Annapurna alleged that Talchua Marine Police Station IIC Sandhyarani Jena verbally abused her, dragged her by the hair, slapped her and wiped off the sindoor from her forehead.
She further alleged that her son was taken inside a toilet where he was brutally assaulted by the IIC and a constable. The complainant also claimed that police personnel attempted to strangle her son during the assault.
According to the allegations, the mother and son were threatened with false cases and warned not to disclose the incident to anyone.
Annapurna also alleged that police seized her son’s mobile phone and forced both of them to sign blank papers. The duo was reportedly detained inside the police station from 6 pm to around 11:40 pm before being released.
As they were allegedly unable to walk due to the assault, family members reportedly brought them home in an auto-rickshaw. On Tuesday morning, both were admitted to Rajnagar Community Health Centre for treatment.
Medical examination reportedly revealed injury marks on Annapurna’s hands and on Ananta’s neck, hands, legs and back.
Reacting to the allegations, Pattamundai SDPO Sukanta Kumar Patra said a complaint has been received and the matter has been brought to the notice of the Superintendent of Police.
He said appropriate action would be taken after inquiry into the allegations.
