Odisha Government Hikes Stipend for PG Ayurveda and Homoeopathy Students

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a substantial increase in the stipend for postgraduate students studying in government Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic colleges across Odisha, a move aimed at encouraging careers in traditional and alternative medicine.

According to the revised rates, effective January 1, 2026, the monthly stipend for first-year postgraduate students will be increased by 55 per cent, from Rs 31,000 to Rs 48,000. Second-year students will receive Rs 52,000 per month, up from Rs 32,000, marking a 62 per cent hike. For third-year students, the stipend has been raised by 67 per cent, from Rs 33,000 to Rs 55,000.

In addition, the stipend for house surgeons will be enhanced from Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000 per month, with effect from August 1, 2024.

The Chief Minister said the decision was taken to ensure that students can focus better on their academic and clinical training while being motivated to serve in the fields of Ayurveda and Homoeopathic medicine. He expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to improved quality of healthcare services in the state.

Around 120 postgraduate students pursuing Ayurveda and Homoeopathy courses in government institutions are expected to benefit from the revised stipend structure.
