No Need to Panic Over H1N1, Says ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has clarified that no new strain of H1N1 influenza has been detected and there is no need for panic.

According to ICMR scientists, the influenza viruses currently circulating have been present since 2025 and remain well matched with the vaccine strains recommended for the Northern Hemisphere.
Seasonal influenza, including H1N1, is generally self-limiting. Common symptoms include fever, cough, headache and body ache, with most patients recovering through proper care and adequate rest.

However, young children, elderly people and those with existing health conditions may face a higher risk of complications. ICMR has advised people to consult a doctor if symptoms persist, worsen or become severe.
The medical body said it is closely monitoring the situation through regular surveillance and taking necessary public health measures.
