Railways Launch Special Cleanliness Drive for Safe Drinking Water

Indian Railways has started a nationwide cleanliness and sanitation drive to ensure passengers get safe and clean drinking water at railway stations.
Under the initiative, Zonal Railways will inspect water sources, filtration plants, underground and overhead tanks, water booths, taps and dispensing points. Drinking-water tanks will be emptied, cleaned, scrubbed and disinfected.

Railways will also ensure proper covers and protection of vents and overflow points to prevent contamination by birds, animals and algae. Special checks will be carried out at stations using hand pumps and borewells to ensure the water remains safe for drinking.

The drive is part of the Railways’ broader efforts to strengthen drinking-water quality and hygiene across its network.
