Newborn stolen from Baripada Medical College, woman flees with baby

Baripada: A newborn was allegedly stolen from the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital prompting the hospital authorities and local police to initiate a search operation.
One Dhanain Hansada of Ranibhol village under Baripada Sadar police station along with his family members was reportedly taking his wife Phulmani Soren to the medical after she complaint of labour pain yesterday.
However, Soren gave birth to a baby boy on the way to the hospital. Later, she was admitted to the hospital along with the newborn at around 5 PM yesterday.
In the government hospital, an undefined woman became friendly with the couple and stayed with them some time after their admission. At around 6 AM today, she persuaded them to go and apply for the financial assistance under the Mamata Yojana of the Odisha government.
While the couple was going to apply for the financial assistance, the unknown woman pretended to help them and managed to take the newborn on her arms and fled from the spot by taking the advantage of his parents’ mindlessness.
As soon as the couple realised that the woman had fled with the child, they launched a frantic search to trace her, but in vain. Later, they informed the police about the incident. Following this, police started an investigation into the matter.
Police have launched a search operation to identify the woman by verifying footage of the CCTV cameras installed in and around the hospital and rescue the child.
