Mini Truck Crushes 4-Yr-Old Child in Nabarangpur
A four-year-old girl died after a mini truck ran over her near the Old Bus Stand in Umerkote town of Nabarangpur district on Sunday.
The victim, from Koigaon village under Dangriguda panchayat in Jharigam block, was walking with her mother and two siblings when the accident occurred. Reports said the mini truck struck the child and ran over her head, leaving her critically injured.
A local auto-rickshaw driver rushed the girl to Umerkote Community Health Centre. Doctors declared her dead on arrival. The incident shocked residents, who gathered at the site in grief.
Umerkote police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Officers seized the mini truck and detained its driver for questioning. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Locals expressed anger over repeated accidents near the Old Bus Stand, blaming the narrow road and frequent traffic congestion. They urged the administration to widen the stretch and implement stricter safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
