Man dragged out of car and killed by wild elephant in Deogarh

Deogarh: A man was gored to death by a wild elephant Sanghapashi village under Kundheigola Section of Reamal Forest Range of Deogarh district and his body lay at the site for over 15 hours.
The deceased has been identified as Sushant Nayak of Jagannathpur village of Angul district.
As per reports, Sushant along with his other four associates had gone to Sanghapashi village to visit the prospective bride’s family in the evening on Thursday.
While, visiting a potential bride’s family a tusked elephant is said to have dragged Sushanta out of the car and killed him.
Following which, agitated locals did not allow to take away the dead body and expressed outrage at Forest department officials demanding the intervention of senior officials at the site.
The locals say they are tired and have been tormented due to the repeated intrusions of wild elephants and demanded immediate action from the concerned department.
Moreover, a herd of 22 elephants has been reported roaming around Sanghapashi village.
Villagers allege that in the past six months over 10 persons have been killed due to elephant attacks, apart from the damage inflicted on villages and crops.
Locals feel that they have been living under a constant threat from the increasing human elephant conflict and they appealed to the Forest Department to take urgent measures to drive away wild elephants.
Forest officials have started monitoring the area.
