Korean delegation discusses with Odisha CM on investment opportunities

(Reporters Today, Bhubaneswar): South Korean industrial delegation led by the Korean Ambassador Shin Bong Kil met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar on Monday to discuss various investment opportunities in Odisha.

Welcoming the Korean Ambassador and the 46-member business delegation, CM said here that, there is a significant opportunity for both Korea and Odisha to strengthen trade, investment and tourism exchanges. Though, POSCO in the past failed to commence its operations in Odisha, the Korean delegation is enthusiastic to explore other opportunities that Odisha has to offer.

Expressing that Korea and Odisha have many possibilities to collaborate across identified focus sectors, he further said the state would soon promulgate a strategy document, Vision 2030, which aims to ensure that 50 percent of the primary metals produced in the state is value-added within the state.

Korean Ambassador appreciated the vision of the Chief Minister and the keenness of Odisha Government for investment and industrialization in the state. In the press meet, the Shin Bong Kil said “for various reasons POSCO could not set up factory in the State but now Korea is going to start a new relationship.”

It’s worth mentioning that due to delay by Odisha government in land acquisition process for the plant, POSCO finally folded its operation and left Odisha.
