ISRO Clarifies: Space Reforms Aim to Expand Ecosystem, Not Privatise

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has dismissed speculation that the ongoing space-sector reforms are aimed at privatising the organisation or reducing its role.

In a social media post, ISRO said it will neither be privatised nor have its importance diminished. Instead, greater private-sector participation is intended to help expand India’s overall space ecosystem.
ISRO said the reforms will allow private companies to take up mature and scalable technologies, boosting manufacturing, commercialisation, innovation and access to global markets. This will enable ISRO’s scientists and engineers to focus more on advanced research, next-generation technologies and complex national missions.

The space agency said the reforms should be viewed as ecosystem expansion and capability multiplication, aimed at building a stronger and globally competitive Indian space sector.
