Gambhir Pens Emotional Farewell for Outgoing Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has penned an emotional farewell for outgoing BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, praising his unwavering commitment to putting the team first during a highly successful tenure.

Agarkar took charge of the men’s selection committee in July 2023, overseeing a golden period for Indian cricket. Under his tenure, India reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final and went on to win the 2024 T20 World Cup, 2025 Champions Trophy and 2026 T20 World Cup.

Gambhir highlighted Agarkar’s contribution and their working relationship in a social media post following his exit.

Agarkar’s final months, however, were marked by debate over succession planning following the Test retirements of senior players and concerns over the long-term ODI transition ahead of the next World Cup.

Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has taken charge as acting chairman of the selection committee. He will oversee squad selections for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand and India A fixtures.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has invited applications for the vacant West Zone selector’s post, with October 14 set as the deadline.
