Odisha Pitches for New Defence Plant

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has invited investment for another advanced defence manufacturing facility in the state, saying Odisha’s expanding industrial and technology ecosystem is well suited to support the sector.
Addressing the foundation ceremony for the second production line of Shakti engines at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) Koraput unit in Sunabeda on Tuesday, Majhi said his government was focused on making Odisha a major centre for defence and high-end manufacturing.
He stressed the importance of developing indigenous defence technologies and strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence production.

Majhi also highlighted the six-decade contribution of HAL’s Koraput division to national security. The launch of the new Shakti engine production line and the ceremonial delivery of the 2,000th engine to the Indian Air Force were described as important milestones for India’s defence manufacturing capabilities.
The Chief Minister pointed to Odisha’s emerging technology infrastructure, including the proposed 870-acre Odisha Silicon Valley at Naraj and semiconductor projects by SiCSem and 3DGS. He said such projects would boost advanced manufacturing and create new opportunities for defence-related industries in the state.
