Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla Narrowly Escapes as Tree Falls on Car
Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla narrowly escaped injury when a tree fell on his vehicle during a Kalbaisakhi storm on Wednesday.
The incident occurred while he was returning from a cricket tournament.
Strong winds uprooted a tree that crashed onto the legislator’s car. Khilla remained trapped inside for a short time but emerged safely. His security personnel and locals rushed to assist, ensuring he was unharmed.
The sudden storm caused damage in several parts of the region, with uprooted trees blocking roads and disrupting traffic. Witnesses said the MLA’s car was partially crushed, but quick action prevented a serious accident.
Khilla later confirmed he was safe and thanked those who helped him. The incident highlighted the risks posed by seasonal Kalbaisakhi storms, which often bring heavy rain and strong winds to southern Odisha.
Local authorities have begun clearing debris and restoring normalcy in affected areas. Residents expressed relief that the legislator escaped without injury.
