Bhubaneswar cab strike enters day 2, passengers face trouble

The protest by app-based taxi drivers in Bhubaneswar entered its second day on Tuesday, with OLA, Uber and Rapido drivers continuing their agitation at Lower PMG.

Under the banner of the All Odisha Gig Workers Union, drivers are demanding government action on fares, incentives, compensation and regulation of online cab services.

The union has demanded fixed fares of ₹12 per km during the day and ₹15 per km at night, along with fare revisions whenever fuel prices increase. Drivers are also seeking peak-hour and weekend bonuses, compensation for long-distance pickups and better waiting-time charges.

The protesters said the lack of direct company offices makes it difficult for drivers to raise their concerns with OLA, Uber and Rapido representatives.

The strike has also disrupted airport cab services, leaving several passengers inconvenienced. Police intervened after some passengers were reportedly stranded during the agitation.
