LPG Refill Rule Eased, 25-Day Booking Gap Restored

The government has relaxed the rules for booking LPG cylinders, allowing consumers to book their next refill after 25 days instead of waiting for 45 days.
The revised rule has come into effect from Monday, September 7, and applies to both urban and rural consumers. The move is expected to provide relief to households that require LPG cylinders more frequently.

Union Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Minister Suresh Gopi said the government has directed oil marketing companies (OMCs) to implement the revised booking interval immediately.
According to the minister, the earlier restrictions were introduced amid pressure on oil companies due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Under the previous arrangement, the refill gap was set at 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas.

The 45-day waiting period had caused difficulties for many households, particularly those with higher cooking-gas consumption. With the new 25-day rule, consumers will no longer have to wait for 45 days before booking another LPG cylinder.
The change is expected to make LPG refills more accessible and reduce inconvenience for families dependent on regular cylinder supplies.
