10-Year-Old Girl’s Murder in Kandhamal Cracked; Minor Brother Arrested

Kandhamal: In a chilling turn of events, Phulbani Adarsha Town police have solved the mysterious death of a 10-year-old girl from Peonapada under Phulbani Town police station limits. The victim’s minor brother has been arrested in connection with the murder, police confirmed on Friday.
The incident took place on August 29, when the young girl, a Class V student, was found hanging in her home while her parents were away. Upon returning, her parents discovered her body and immediately rushed her to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Initially, the victim’s father filed a police complaint, accusing his nephew—also the victim’s cousin—of being involved in her death. However, during the course of the investigation, police zeroed in on the victim’s own brother as the prime suspect.
According to Phulbani SDPO Subhrajit Biswal, the minor boy confessed to the crime during interrogation. He was subsequently arrested and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which ordered his remand to Balashram Jail in Boudh.
The girl’s family, however, suspects that others may also be involved in the crime and has demanded a thorough investigation. “The case is still under investigation. If any other individuals are found to be involved, they will be brought to justice,” SDPO Biswal assured.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, as police continue their probe into the exact motive and circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
