Former Legislator Umesh Chandra Swain Dies at 74

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): Umesh Chandra Swain, former Balikuda legislator, passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar, this morning. He was 74.

Umesh died of cardiac arrest, family sources said. His last rites will be performed at native Machhagaon village in Jagatsinghpur district.

He was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the constituency four times– in 1977 as Janata Party candidate, in 1990 as Janata Dal nominee, in 2000 as Congress candidate and in 2004 as Congress nominee. He was born at Machhagaon village under Balikuda block in Jagatsinghpur district.
