“Children’s field is education, not workplace”

Surjit Kumar Dhal,BHUBANESWAR, JUNE 8: Speakers at a training and awareness workshop on abolition of child labour dubbed torture on children as a blot on society and said a child’s place must be in school, not at any workplace.

The workshop was organised by the State Labour and Workers’ Pension Department and the State Child Right Protection Commission under the chairmanship of the commission chairperson Sandhyabati Pradhan.

Addressing the workshop as chief speaker, Labour and ESI Commissioner Anjan Kumar Manik said the torture on childhood is a blot on society and we all have a responsibility to liberate all children from such heinous practice.

Every citizen should ensure that children are sent to school, not to take the burden of labour, Manik said.

Among those who participated in the workshop included senior research officer of the National Law University Pramod Kumar Acharya, State Child Right Protection Commission member Harihar Nayak, Technical consultant of the Labour Department Dr. BB Acharya.
