IICT, Netflix Launch Scholarships for 100 Students to Nurture India’s Next Generation of Storytellers

The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and Netflix have announced a new scholarship programme aimed at helping develop the next generation of Indian storytellers and creative professionals.
Under the initiative, 100 students will receive financial assistance of up to 80% for six specialised programmes covering animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and related creative technologies. The scholarships will be open to both students and working professionals from across India.

The programmes include two one-year diploma courses — Interactive Comics and Sequential Arts and Visual Effects Mastery — along with four six-month certificate courses in Virtual Art Department Content Creation, Media Tech Workflow, Art of Character Animation, and E-Sports and Gaming Management.
The initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos in August, during which the Prime Minister highlighted India’s strong storytelling heritage and vast pool of creative talent. He also stressed the potential to position India as a global centre for content creation.
The Netflix India Storytelling Initiative was subsequently launched to strengthen the country’s creative talent pipeline by providing industry-focused training across the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) ecosystem.

Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Chairman of the IICT Board, said India’s creative economy is entering an important phase of growth. He noted that IICT aims to connect India’s large creative talent pool with the evolving requirements of the global AVGC-XR industry.
He added that partnerships with industry leaders such as Netflix can bring practical industry expertise into classrooms and help prepare Indian talent for the creative workforce of the future.
