Kalabaisakhi Brings Heatwave Relief to Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: After enduring intense heat and humidity for nearly 10 days, residents of Bhubaneswar finally woke up to much-needed relief on Wednesday morning as the city’s heat index dropped sharply to 27°C at 5:30 AM. The sudden decline marked the lowest heat index recorded in the capital this season.
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heat index had remained extremely high over the past several days, ranging between 39°C and 44°C. The highest heat index was recorded on May 22 when it touched 44°C, making weather conditions extremely uncomfortable for residents.

Meteorologists attributed the sharp fall in temperature and humidity levels to the impact of Kalabaisakhi, which brought cooler winds, cloud cover, and possible rainfall to several parts of the city. The weather system helped break the prolonged spell of oppressive humid heat that had gripped Bhubaneswar for over a week.
The nearly 17°C drop in heat index from the peak level has provided major relief to citizens struggling with sweltering mornings and uncomfortable weather conditions. Weather experts, however, cautioned that fluctuations in temperature may continue in the coming days despite signs of a gradual seasonal transition toward the monsoon.
