Day Temperature Likely to Rise by 2-4°C Across Odisha: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Daytime temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across many parts of Odisha over the next six to seven days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

According to the regional weather office, a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal. However, the system is unlikely to intensify into a depression. The IMD said it may develop into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 48 hours, though the possibility of further intensification remains very low.

Despite this, the weather department has forecast a gradual increase in temperatures across the state in the coming days.

Western Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Tuesday. Titlagarh recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 40 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Sambalpur at 39.9 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda at 39.2 degrees Celsius, and Bhawanipatna at 39 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has predicted that most places in western Odisha are likely to witness temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday. Coastal districts are expected to remain relatively cooler, with temperatures ranging between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius.

On May 15 and 16, temperatures in western and interior districts may soar up to 41 degrees Celsius, while coastal and southern Odisha are expected to remain below 40 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, several places in northern Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall till May 16.

The weather department has advised people, particularly in western and interior regions, to take precautions against the rising heat, stay hydrated, and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
