Jajpur Orders Closure of Street Food Shops for 7 Days After Food Poisoning Incident

Bhubaneswar: The Jajpur Municipal Administration has launched a drive against unhygienic food vendors in urban areas, ordering all dahibara shops, street food vendors, and fast food centres to remain closed for the next seven days.

The action follows a food poisoning incident in the Dasarathpur area, where more than 90 people fell ill after consuming contaminated dahibara and fast food.

A team led by Chief Health Officer Dr. Pradeep Khuntia conducted raids in areas including Kusuma, Medical Square, and Jodikua. Food samples have been collected for laboratory testing to determine the source of contamination.

The administration has advised residents to consume boiled water and maintain hygiene to prevent further illness.

Earlier, over 90 people reported symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach ailments after eating dahibara in Dasarathpur. Several were admitted to local hospitals, while critical patients were shifted to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.

The administration has warned of strict action against vendors found selling unhygienic or substandard food.
