Ama Bus Driver Arrested in Fatal NH-16 Accident in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested an absconding Ama Bus driver in connection with a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist near Satsang Vihar along NH-16 on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Ashwini Kumar, was apprehended by Sahid Nagar Police after investigators gathered evidence linking him to the incident. He had been on the run since the accident.

According to police, the mishap occurred due to rash and negligent driving. The Ama Bus was allegedly moving at high speed when it hit the motorcycle from behind near Satsang Vihar on National Highway 16.

The victim was reportedly travelling from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar at the time of the accident and sustained critical injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident. Following the accident, locals staged a road blockade demanding action.

Officials of Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), which operates the Ama Bus service, reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police said further investigation is underway.
