Youth Beaten To Death In Bhubaneswar Outskirts, One Detained

Bhubaneswar: Barely 24 hours after the shocking mob lynching incident in Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, another brutal murder has surfaced in the capital region, with a young man allegedly beaten to death by a group of youths under Balipatna police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Das, a resident of Athantar village under Balipatna police limits. He was reportedly working as a truck driver.

According to reports, two youths had allegedly visited Rakesh’s house earlier in the day and demanded ₹20,000 from him. They also reportedly threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the amount.
Later in the evening, Rakesh was near Athantar Chhak when more than four youths allegedly attacked him with iron rods and sticks. The assailants allegedly assaulted him brutally before throwing him into a nearby canal.
After being informed about the incident, family members rescued Rakesh from the canal and rushed him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have started an investigation into the incident and reportedly detained one person for questioning in connection with the murder.
The incident has sparked concern over the increasing incidents of violent crimes in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, especially close on the heels of the Balianta mob lynching case that had triggered widespread outrage.
