Woman Rescued, Husband Missing After Couple Jumps Into Birupa River In Jajpur

Jajpur: A woman was rescued after allegedly jumping into the Birupa river along with her husband from the Balikuda bridge in Jajpur district in the early hours of Monday. Her husband remains untraceable, police said.
The couple was identified as Sudhakar Ojha and his wife Tilottama Ojha, residents of the Talua area under Badachana block. Preliminary information suggests that a family dispute may have preceded the incident.
According to reports, the couple reached the Balikuda bridge at around 3 am and allegedly jumped into the river. Local residents soon noticed the incident and informed the Bari Fire Services, following which a rescue team rushed to the spot.
Firefighters launched an extensive search in the river and nearby areas. During the operation, rescuers located Tilottama in the Mahakal Pada area of Bari and pulled her to safety.
She was subsequently taken to the Indupur Community Health Centre in Kendrapara for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, search teams continued their efforts to locate Sudhakar, but he could not be found despite a sustained search operation in the river.
While a family dispute is suspected to have led to the incident, the exact circumstances remain unclear. Police are continuing to ascertain the sequence of events, and further details are awaited.
