India’s 5G Network Now Covers Every District: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, highlighting India’s rapid expansion in telecom, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies.
Being held under the theme “Scale Without Boundaries,” the four-day technology event brings together global industry leaders, policymakers, startups, investors and innovators to showcase the country’s growing digital capabilities.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the India Mobile Congress has tracked the remarkable transformation of India’s telecommunications sector over the years. He announced that 5G connectivity has now been extended to every district in the country, with more than 5.5 lakh 5G base stations currently operational nationwide.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the government’s vision is to make technology accessible to every citizen rather than limiting its benefits to urban centres. He stressed that affordability and inclusion are essential for wider digital adoption.
Scindia noted that the cost of mobile data has fallen dramatically over the past decade. According to him, 1GB of data that cost around ₹268 in 2014 is now available for approximately ₹8, placing India among the countries offering some of the most affordable mobile data services.

The minister also praised telecom operators, equipment manufacturers and industry employees for driving the rapid rollout of 5G. He said India currently has around 550 million 5G users, making the country one of the fastest adopters of the technology globally.
IMC 2026 is focusing on next-generation connectivity, digital infrastructure, inclusive technology and secure digital ecosystems. The event has also widened its scope to include smart mobility, stadium experiences, industrial robotics and transport technology.
The congress is witnessing participation from more than 1.5 lakh people representing over 100 countries, along with more than 500 partners and exhibitors and around 600 startups, offering a platform to explore new opportunities in the global digital economy.
