Seven Sluice Gates Open At Hirakud Dam As Reservoir Level Rises

Bhubaneswar: Seven sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam remained open on Saturday morning as the reservoir level continued to rise, according to the latest update issued by the dam authorities at 6 am.

Of the seven gates currently operational, five are on the left spillway and two on the right spillway.

The reservoir level was recorded at 622.19 feet, while the average inflow stood at 1,84,370 cusecs, showing a declining trend. The average outflow from the dam was recorded at 1,45,706 cusecs.

Of the total discharge, 1,10,824 cusecs was being released through the spillway, while 31,941 cusecs was flowing through the power channel. Another 229 cusecs was being supplied for industrial use, and 2,712 cusecs was released through various canals.

Meanwhile, water discharge at downstream gauge stations, including Belgaon, Patharla, Khairmal, Barmul and Mundali, was showing a declining trend.

The dam authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and further decisions regarding the operation of the gates will be taken based on the inflow, reservoir level and downstream conditions.
