Fire Erupts At Unit-I Market In Bhubaneswar, Two Shops Gutted

Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the busy Unit-I Market in Bhubaneswar during the early hours of Saturday, gutting two shops and destroying property worth several lakhs of rupees.

The fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit in one of the shops. The blaze reportedly erupted around dawn and quickly spread to the adjoining establishment, consuming the shops and a large quantity of goods kept inside.

On being alerted, firefighting personnel from the Bhubaneswar Fire Station rushed to the market with two fire units. The teams battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation completely under control.

Their timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to other shops and stalls in the densely packed market area.

The incident created panic among shopkeepers and workers, many of whom attempted to retrieve their belongings and stock as the flames intensified.

Assistant Fire Officer, Bhubaneswar, said the fire affected two establishments—one grocery shop and another dealing in khali (gunny bags). No casualties were reported in the incident.

The exact extent of the financial loss is yet to be ascertained.
