SC refuses PIL seeking central law on bullying, ragging in schools

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a PIL seeking a central law and uniform guidelines to tackle bullying and ragging in schools and pre-university institutions across the country.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, said the court had already issued directions on the issues raised in the plea and a fresh petition could not be entertained merely for their implementation.

The bench, however, allowed petitioner Yadavi Aditya Rasiwasiya to submit a representation to the concerned authorities.The PIL sought a central legislation and mandatory guidelines for schools to effectively address complaints of bullying and ragging. It also sought the inclusion of lessons on the harmful effects of bullying and ragging in the curriculum of schools affiliated with both central and state education boards.
